For the second time since initially receiving the award in April of 2014, City of Homestead Police Officer Mario Arzuaga once again found himself on the floor of the council chamber during a Special Council Presentation surrounded by his peers and colleagues as the recipient of the Officer of the Month Award for July.

In the month of July, Officer Arzuaga was credited with a total of thirteen arrests, six of which were felonies and the remaining seven were for misdemeanor offenses. In addition, the officer also wrote seven traffic citations, conducted eleven citizen contacts and handled 151 service calls.
Of special note were the events of July 26 which commenced when Officer Arzuaga responded to a robbery in progress. Upon arrival on the scene, the officer observed an individual leaning over a semi-conscious man lying on the ground. The individual was observed rummaging through the man’s pockets with a clear intent to rob him. The officer apprehended the subject and called for an ambulance to care for the injured victim. Later, it was discovered that the victim had suffered a seizure and was being taken advantage of by the subject as a result.Said Mayor Jeff Porter, “It is with gratitude that we thank you here today for your distinguished service above and beyond the call of duty. The City of Homestead salutes you!”
