[ARCHIVED] Councilman Elvis Maldonado Honors Relay for Life Sponsors and Committee Members

Councilman Elvis Maldonado Honorary Event Chair for this year’s Homestead Relay for Life, extended his thanks to the Homestead Relay for Life Committee who worked “behind the scenes” to make this year’s event such a sensation.

“As the Honorary Chair of the 2014 Relay for Life of Homestead, it gives me great honor to recognize the hard working 2014 Relay for Life of Homestead Committee,” said Councilman Maldonado at the Special Council Presentation in June.

“Every year is a special year for the Relay and this year’s committee did an amazing job and raised over $56,000. They brought the City and community together, giving of their time and energy to put together a well-attended and amazing event. Therefore, tonight I would like to present Event Chair Teri Weinstein and the rest of the 2014 Relay for Life of Homestead Committee of Desiree Chase, Michael Hitt, Nancy Bourke, Jennifer Lora, Bonnie King-Moran, Katelyn Bourke, and Sherri Lambert with certificates of appreciation.”

Also honored on this evening were the sponsors that provided invaluable support with the donation of time and resources for this noble cause. Noteworthy among those sponsors was Stephen Degrave, owner of Flagler's Martini Bar. He hosted the Relay for Life of Homestead Wrap-Up Party and provided all the guests with complimentary food, drinks and a beautiful venue. Also honored was Doug Hitchcock, Radio Personality/DJ from Thunder Country 100.3 who allowed Event Chair, Teri Weinstein to have free airtime every Friday over the course of several weeks to promote the Relay.

Last, but certainly not least, were the contributions of Assistant to Mayor and Council Heather Palmateer and Eddie Sanchez whose diligence ensured a successful Relay for 2014.
Relay for Life is a community-based fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. Today, more than 5,000 Relay for Life events take place across twenty countries. Events are held in local communities, campus universities and in virtual worlds. As the American Cancer Society's most successful fundraiser and the organization's signature event, the mission of Relay For Life is to raise funds to improve cancer survival, decrease the incidence of cancer, and improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their caretakers.
