During a Special Council Presentation in May, City of Homestead Detective Antonio Aquino welcomed in the latest crop of newly minted officers to join the police force. Said the detective, “There were over one-hundred applicants over the past year. Twelve of those passed through the process and the officers present today represent the first four of that group. Those standards are not only set by state and federal guidelines but also by our own Police Chief Rolle and our mayor to best serve our citizenry.”Officer Burt McComb was born in Miami, FL and is a fluent speaker of Creole. He holds a Bachelors in Business Administration and was a banker for six years before graduating from the police academy in June 2013.
Officer Sofia Ayala was born in Miami, FL and is a graduate of Homestead Senior High School. For over three years, she was a Small Arms Technician for the United States Marine Corps and currently she is a full-time Criminal Justice student. She graduated from the police academy in June 2013.Officer Jesua Acevedo was also born in Miami and a graduate of Homestead Senior High School. He is a Criminal Justice student at Miami-Dade College and last worked as a bank teller. He graduated the police academy in 2012.
Officer Alfonso Ponce was born in Mexico and holds an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He last worked as an Assistant Manager at Pet Supermarket and graduated the academy in 2012.After the swearing in ceremony, Mayor Porter wished the officers all the best. “We are proud of your accomplishments and trust that you will uphold the high standards that we have set for you and that you administer your duty with honor and grace. Welcome!”
