During the May City of Homestead Council meeting, Councilman Elvis Maldonado introduced representatives from Charter School Associates to present to the community their new Executive Internship Program. Area Director for Charter School Associates, Melissa Aguilar, gave the public a little insight into the new program, which the organization is rolling out among all eight charter schools in the South Dade Area.
“We have an opportunity for all incoming seniors called the Executive Internship Program. All applicants will have had 3 years of service and field activities used to prepare them not only for the university level but for a career as well. Our approach will utilize the best of both the traditional and contemporary approaches to teaching that will promote self-directed learning and the creative problem solving that will be required of them to stay competitive in the workplace. We appreciate and would like to thank the mayor and council for always being so focused on education.”
Charter School Associates develops and operates eight successful Charter Schools in the South Dade area and is the third largest management company in all of Florida. CSA has developed dozens of schools ranging in size from as few as 35 students to as many as 1,150 students. In Homestead, we have two of these schools: The Charter School at Waterstone, and Everglades Preparatory Middle and High School where Councilman Maldonado’s younger daughter currently attends.
“This council has always made sure that we give the City of Homestead a choice when it comes to selecting the kind of education we want for our children,” said Councilman Maldonado. “It is an honor to have Charter School Associates as part as our community. They provide parents a positive option for their child’s education in a nurturing environment where high expectations equal high student achievement.”
