[ARCHIVED] Councilwoman Fairclough Recognizes Homestead U16 Soccer Team

The City of Homestead is keeping pace with the nation’s ever-expanding soccer craze. Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough recognized one of Homestead’s finest soccer teams during the April Special Council Presentation for their most recent accomplishment.

The councilwoman went on to say, “As many of you know, I’m an educator and I’m always capitalizing on the opportunity to highlight the talents of our students. Our Homestead U16 soccer team just competed in Central Florida at the President’s Soccer Cup. After last year’s loss at this match, they renewed their efforts and went on a mission to win it this year and that’s exactly what they did. As a result, the team is now representing the City of Homestead in Decatur, Alabama from June 11-15. I’m honored for them to be among us this evening to share their accomplishments with us.”

The councilwoman then articulated how critical sports can be as a teacher of life skills for kids coming from less than ideal surroundings. “The City of Homestead has a huge appetite for soccer and we have some phenomenal players in our midst but they are of equal worth as people. Many of them come from humble beginnings and they carry a huge burden that seems to lift when they go out on that field. On behalf of the mayor and council, we bid you much success as you aim for victory.”
