[ARCHIVED] Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough Honors Women’s Club of Homestead

Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough rounded out the evening of Special Council Presentations on March 19 by acknowledging the long-standing Women’s Club of Homestead.

“In addition to St. Patrick’s Day, March is also a time to celebrate the accomplishments of women during Women’s History Month,” said Councilwoman Fairclough. “On that note, I’d like to recognize the members of the Women’s Club of Homestead who, like the city they call home, is also celebrating 100 years as an institution. I would like to thank them for paving the way for women like myself to make an impact in this community.”

The Women’s Club of Homestead is a humanitarian organization, founded in 1914, whose main objective is to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. They have made many contributions including raising funds to ease the suffering of the casualties of the first world war, helping to found the Florida Pioneer Museum and countless hours of volunteer work.

Councilwoman Fairclough then closed by saying, “The City of Homestead honors the Women’s Club of Homestead. All the members past, present and future, contributing to the birth, withstanding and adapting to the changes of time, and overcoming all obstacles in order to continue the growth of the organization and honor the legacy. We wish you many blessings for the next hundred years.”

It was then proclaimed September 26 as the Women’s Club of Homestead’s Centennial Celebration Day in the City of Homestead.

Members of the Women’s Club in attendance were Lorene Strano (President), Juanita Smith (Vice President), Meda Jensen, Mayne McSween, Leota Lane, Jan Malone, Maggie Bates, Bonnie King-Moran, Joann Crebbin, Ann McAllister, Gale Polk, Carmen Otero, Connie Fleming, Evelyn Guilfoyle and Yvonne Knowles.
