Students are invited to participate in an Art and Essay Student Contest organized and sponsored by the Greater Homestead/Florida City Chamber of Commerce, which offers cash prizes to the winners. The Essay Contest invites Middle School (6-8 grade) and Senior High School (9-12 grade) students to write a 500-word-limit essay about what freedom and honoring service means. The Art Contest, open for four age groups, Elementary (K-2), Elementary (3-5 grade), Middle School (6-8 grade) and Senior High School (9-12 grade), invites students to design a Memorial Day artwork about what freedom and honoring service means. Each category’s age group will receive cash prizes as follows: $100 for First Place, $50 for Second Place and $25 for third place. Deadline for entries is April 25, 2014 and the winners will be announced at the Military Appreciation Day Event where the artwork and essays will be exhibited.
