Vice-Mayor Stephen R. Shelley was awarded the YMCA of Greater Miami’s Impact Award for Healthy Living at its recent 2013 Annual “Lasting Impact” meeting. The honor was given to Vice-Mayor Shelley for his support in helping the Y strengthen the Homestead community.
“Vice-Mayor Shelley rejuvenated the close partnership between the Homestead YMCA Family Center and the City of Homestead, strengthening the ability of both to serve the needs of the community,” said a Homestead YMCA representative. “Steve helps the Y provide healthy living opportunities by supporting its charitable cause, having served as chair of the Y’s 2013 Annual Support Campaign, which provides financial assistance so that all children and families can be a part of the Y.”
Vice-Mayor Shelley also served on the committee of the inaugural 2013 Homestead YMCA Jingle Bell Run, sponsored by South Dade Toyota that took place in Homestead on Saturday, December 14th. Two hundred and five people took part in this “Race for a Cause,” a healthy activity for the entire family, organized in partnership with the City of Homestead.
“I am proud of the work the YMCA does for Homestead and of the partnership we have created,” said Vice-Mayor Shelley. “It is an honor to receive this award and we will continue to work together towards a healthier Homestead.”
