During the December 2013 Council Meeting, Councilwoman Fairclough commended all the groups that made the “Rock-N-Ribs” Fest, a yearly event that raises money for non-profit organizations that cater to children, such a rousing success.
“I would like to call to the podium some of the good people that do a lot of the heavy lifting behind the scenes to make sure this event is executed flawlessly. I would like to introduce Mr. Larry Roth, Mr. Tony Garcia, Alissa McPherron and Susan Newman. It was an honor and a pleasure to work alongside such generous professionals.”
At this time, Mr. Roth stepped to the podium and addressed the council. “I want to thank Councilman Burgess, Councilman Maldonado and Councilwoman Fairclough because without them events like this could never take place. I would also like to thank the Parks and Recreation Department and the Solid Waste Department. I’m thrilled to report that, in our second year, we raised fifteen thousand dollars for four worthy charities.” The charities of note were: Where Every Child is a Star, Villa Prep Academy, Start off Smart and Patches. Also notable were the efforts of the Punishers, a motorcycle club made up largely of law enforcement officers and the Kiwanis Club of Homestead for providing volunteers.
