November 23 may just be another date on the calendar for most, but 15 Homestead families are not likely to forget it. On this Saturday before Thanksgiving, a group of volunteers delivered turkey baskets to various underprivileged families thanks to a Thanksgiving donation effort led by Councilman Elvis Maldonado.
The mission was fulfilled with timely efforts put in by the charitable donations of Christ Fellowship Church, the expediting of the Homestead Police Department Police Explorers and under the leadership of Councilman Maldonado, his staff and South Regional Coordinator of the Miami-Dade County Council of PTAs/PTSAs Teri Weinstein. School counselors from West Homestead Elementary, Campbell Drive Middle School and Homestead Middle School also contributed by identifying the families who were most in need.
“Thanksgiving is a holiday to be thankful for what we have as well as sharing. I am proud that our community can come together to bring hope to those who are less fortunate,” said Councilman Maldonado.
