In recognition of their charitable contributions and innumerable service to various local organizations and families in need, Vice-Mayor Jon Burgess, declared October 16, 2013 as Iota Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc Day. The fraternity’s South Florida chapter has contributed their time, resources and talents to better Homestead and the South Dade area for many years.
“There is a great need in not just Homestead but all of Miami-Dade and Iota Pi Lambda helps fill the need of those that could use a helping hand,” said Vice-Mayor Burgess at the October City Council meeting, where he presented the proclamation. “They have been helping the community here for over 40 years and it is an honor to acknowledge them and proclaim today as their day in Homestead.”
The Iota Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha has endeavored to perform services that improve the communal infrastructure of Southern Miami. The chapter has supported many charitable ventures that include donations to local families in need, social and civic organizations, and international relief campaigns. Locally, Iota Pi Lambda ambitiously works to provide scholarships to high school seniors, donations to youth sports teams, school supplies to elementary school classrooms, Thanksgiving food baskets to needy families, and Christmas toys to children residing throughout the area.
