The Mayor’s Youth Council did their part to collaborate in this year’s Homestead Relay for Life! The team presented a donation of $500 to the organization during the August City Council meeting.
“The members of our Youth Council took it upon themselves to do their part on the fight against cancer. They embraced whole heartedly this project and by doing their part they also learned about their community and that each person can make a difference,” said Liaison to the Mayor’s Youth Council Councilwoman Fairclough-McCormick.
The Mayor’s Youth Council is a program for young local students that complements academic studies by increasing knowledge, communication skills, and involving them in practical hands-on experiences to promote volunteerism among both youth and adults in civic education and affairs. The members have gained great knowledge through the participation on events, local boards and committees that serve the Homestead community.
