Councilman Elvis R. Maldonado, Liaison to the Homestead Education Committee, visited several local schools to wish students, parents, teachers and administrators a successful new school year. The schools visited included two of Councilman Maldonado's alma maters: Campbell Drive K-8 Center and Campbell Drive Middle School.
During his visit to Campbell Drive K-8 Center, Councilman Maldonado passed out pencils to students, visited numerous classrooms and shared his thoughts and vision for the new year with Miami-Dade County Public Schools South Region Director Dr. Alex Martinez and Principal Thelma Fornell.
While at Campbell Drive Middle School, Councilman Maldonado addressed the 8th graders at their orientation. He encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunity to receive a good education and stressed the importance of studying hard, staying focused, being respectful of themselves and others, and thanking their teachers. After the 8th Grade Orientation, Councilman Maldonado, along with Saif Ishoof, Vice President and Executive Director of City Year Miami, visited several classrooms and spoke with the students and teachers.
