[ARCHIVED] Councilman Stephen R. Shelley's Artist in the Spotlight - Featuring Teresa Slomko

Councilman Stephen R. Shelley introduced Teresa Slomko as the new participant of his program “Artist in the Spotlight” during a special presentation of the July Homestead City Council meeting. Mrs. Slomko’s photography will be on display at ArtSouth and the Downtown Homestead Historical Town Hall Museum from July through August.

“Mrs. Slomko’s photography is unique and original, and I am proud to give her a vehicle to spotlight her work,” said Councilman Shelley. “The City of Homestead is blessed to have a thriving art community, and I am committed to shining a light on the art and artist within it.”

Teresa Slomko, originally from Queens, NY and the youngest in a family of ten, has been a resident of Homestead for the last 8 years and lives in the Keys Gate community. For the last five years, Mrs. Slomko has been expressing herself through photography and has been writing poetry for most of her life. Many of her photos come from her trips with her husband; however, her inspiration also comes from the historical City of Homestead.

“I am inspired by life and the moments where everything falls into place and when everything goes wrong. I capture and interpret those moments as I see it and feel it. Some moments are silly, some are serious, spiritual, and most are colorful. My other inspirations are my family and friends who I can always rely on for support,” said Mrs. Slomko during the Council presentation. “I also would like to thank Councilman Shelley for this opportunity and the City of Homestead. Thank you so much for having this outlet for artists like myself.”
