Most residents have seen Bonnie King Moran one time or another either dressed up as historical Homestead character or photographing a community event. She is a true Homestead volunteer! During the July City Council meeting, Mrs. Moran, was recognized by Councilman Elvis Maldonado with the Citizen Excellence in Community Involvement Award for her commitment to volunteering and her ongoing involvement in the community.
“I am honored to present this award to a very special resident here in Homestead,” said Councilman Maldonado. “Mrs. King-Moran is an example of selfless service, always giving her time and talents to help others and asking for nothing in return. The City of Homestead and I are truly thankful for her.”
Mrs. King-Moran is always more than willing to offer her time to the Homestead community. In many occasions she has volunteered to teach residents about Homestead’s rich history dressed a historical characters during the City’s Centennial celebration events. She has played the famous Lily Lawrence Bow, after whom Homestead’s first library was named, and has traditionally become Mrs. Clause every Christmas Tree Lighting at Losner Park. Mrs. Moran also volunteers her photography skills to document a variety of events around Homestead, from the Homestead and Florida City Chamber of Commerce events, to food drives and non-profit fundraisers.
This is the first year Councilman Maldonado has given out Citizen Excellence in Community Involvement Award and he will continue to select a Homestead citizen every year to be honored for the community involvement and service.
