[ARCHIVED] Councilwoman Fairclough-McCormick Recognizes Homestead College-Bound Seniors

Over forty seniors from various Homestead high schools were recognized at a special graduation-like presentation organized by Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough-McCormick at the May City Council meeting. The college-bound students were honored with a medal by Miami-Dade County School Board District 9 Member Dr. Lawrence S. Feldman, a certificate of recognition by the City of Homestead and Councilwoman Fairclough-McCormick and greeted on stage by Miami-Dade County Public Schools South Region Superintendent Dr. Alexis L. Martinez, South Region Administrative Director Steffond L. Cone, State Representative Kionne McGhee, Congressman Joe Garcia representative Kevin Chambliss and principals from all over Homestead.

“The students here today understand what it means to have a goal, work toward it, and complete it. They represent the best of our community and the success of our teachers, and schools,” said Councilwoman Fairclough-McCormick Co-Liaison to the Homestead Education Committee. “I am proud to recognize them today for what they have accomplished, and for what they will accomplish in college. Their story of success continues to be written as they embark upon a new chapter in their education journey.”

The college-bound students were honored for their perseverance, determination and setting an example for students all over Homestead to continue their education. Five top students also received five $100 Wal-Mart gift cards from Valley Crest Landscaping Companies, and Student Bo Ellis received an iPad for his acceptance to Harvard University. Graduating students also received business cards from Councilwoman Fairclough-McCormick, the Mayor, and council members to use should they ever need assistance or advice as they embark on a new chapter in their education.
