The Homestead Sports Complex Demolition Kick Off was an explosive event as elected officials, residents, local youth leagues, and city staff gathered to celebrate the momentous occasion. The morning kicked off with a program that dove into the history of the Homestead Sports Complex and what the community can expect for the future. After remarks from Mayor and Council regarding their excitement for the upcoming project, it was time to demolish the old building. The event tent was flanked by large construction equipment and renderings of what the community can expect for the new park. The crowd counted down from 5 and sparks erupted as the excavator began to destroy the building as the iconic song Eye of the Tiger played.
The demolition kick off marked the first step towards the realization of this ambitious project and introduced the amenities that will be added in Phase 1. The amenities include multi-purpose turf lighted field, rubberized competition track, event stage, shaded spectator seating, improved parking and access roads, and the unveiling of the new restroom and concession building.
