The City of Homestead honored Police Chief Alexander E. Rolle, Jr. by dedicating the department’s headquarters building in his name at a ceremony held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. The event was attended by the Homestead Mayor and City Council, community leaders, and distinguished dignitaries, as well as representatives from several South Florida police and fire departments.

Chief Rolle, who has served the department for more than 40 years and in 1998 became the first African American to serve as Chief of Police in Homestead, was recognized for his exceptional leadership and dedication to the community. Under his leadership, the Homestead Police Department has implemented programs that include community policing strategies and helped improve public safety and reduce crime in the city.

In his remarks, Chief Rolle thanked his family, the department, the command staff, the city council, and the community for their support throughout his career. He also expressed gratitude for the recognition bestowed upon him. “This is truly a special moment for me and my family, and I am deeply humbled by this honor,” said Chief Rolle. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this community I grew up in, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together in the Homestead community.”

The dedication ceremony also included thanks and recognition from the Homestead Mayor & Councilmembers, a special Proclamation from the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners, and a heartfelt speech by Chief Rolle’s daughter, Dr. Alexia Q. Rolle, Ed.D.

Following the speeches, Chief Rolle alongside his family, witnessed the unveiling of the plaque in his honor, which is located prominently at the entrance of the police headquarters. The plaque recognizes Chief Rolle’s contribution and positive impact on the police force and community.

After the plaque unveiling, a reception was held complete with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. The reception provided an opportunity for attendees to congratulate and thank Chief Rolle for his hard work and dedication.
