At the Special Council Presentation Ceremony, Councilwoman Jenifer Bailey recognized the Homestead Senior High School Band for displaying extraordinary excellence at statewide competition. They attended the Florida Bandmasters Association Solo & Ensemble Music Performance Assessment where they received the rating of excellent. This was the first time in 16 years that Homestead Senior High was able to attend the assessment. The band director and students dedicated many hours of practice to hone their skills and earn the much-deserved rating . The band director was given a Certificate of Recognition for his dedication and guidance that led the students to this important accomplishment. Each band member also received a personal Certificate of Recognition and one to hang in the classroom at Homestead Senior High.
“We are very proud of you for this huge accomplishment,” remarked Councilwoman Bailey. “I am a proponent and supporter of the arts so I am delighted to see the youth of Homestead working so hard and representing the community in a positive light.”
The purpose of the Florida Bandmasters Association Solo & Ensemble Music Performance Assessment is to provide an opportunity for students and directors to perform in an environment that provides critical evaluation of its performance by noted experts in the field. They perform to their peers in a formal concert setting and serves as a motivational goal for students and directors.
Schools from all over the state attend the performance assessment to earn their rating and see where they rank among their peers. Councilwoman Bailey then took the opportunity to announce that the Homestead Senior High School band will be performing at the annual Artwalk in the Park event on Saturday, May 28th, 2022 from 1pm to 5pm at Blakey Park for those interested in seeing them in action and congratulating them on earning there prestigious rating.
