The William F. Dickinson Community Center is a wonderful place for families, senior citizens and children, and on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, the City of Homestead’s Parks and Recreation Department, led by Councilwoman Judy Waldman, held an appreciation award luncheon for the Community Center’s volunteers.
Patriotic decorations galore and a party room packed full of dedicated members of the Homestead community, Councilwoman Judy Waldman thanked everyone for giving so freely of their time to a place that means so much to her. Mr. William Dickinson was a good friend of the Councilwoman and she was very happy to see the building, named in his memory, looking so beautiful after she helped redecorate it and seeing the passion for the community grow within it.
Councilwoman Waldman, Parks and Recreation Department Head, Dennis Maytan, and Mayor Steven C. Bateman thanked each volunteer and spoke about how thankful they were for the support these men and women provide throughout the year. With tears in her eyes, Councilwoman Waldman recalled, with Mrs. Dickinson, what a great man Mr. William F. Dickinson had been.
The luncheon was held at the Golden Coral, providing plenty of scrumptious foods and desserts for all those lovely volunteers. Each one of them received goody bags from Mayor Bateman and Certificates of Appreciation from Councilwoman Waldman, and there was plenty of love to match all the comfort food.
“I remember what an amazing man Bill was, and spending all that time redecorating that building, I am so happy to see how active it is, always full of events, you all do a beautiful job and I am so happy to get to be here and thank each of you, please always remember how important you are, the center would be nothing without you amazing people.”-Councilwoman Judy Waldman.
