At the November Special Council Presentation Ceremony, Mayor Steven D. Losner presented the proclamation to officially declare the month of November as National Adoption Month in Homestead. Shamele Jenkins, the executive director of Miami- Dade County Foster and Adoptive Parent Association, was present to receive the proclamation. The decree celebrated the efforts made by families to foster and adopt children to give them a happy, healthy life, and a place to call home.
Mayor Losner also presented several families with a certificate of special recognition for giving youth in the Homestead community a safe haven and loving home to call their own. “We want to take the time to recognize those individuals and those families who have opened up their homes, their hearts, and their lives to take children in and make them part of their family, at all ages, from newborn to adolescence.” remarked Mayor Steven D. Losner.
National adoption month is about spreading awareness. It is dedicated to encourage others to learn about adoption, to hold adoption related events, and to acknowledge the people in this country whose lives have been impacted by adoption. The mission is to celebrate the families who have grown through adoption, and to recognize the many children who are still waiting for forever families.
