The Second Annual South Dade Care Awards on March 22, 2013 featured Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough-McCormick and Councilman Elvis R. Maldonado as they presented honorary awards to exceptional organizations and individuals in the South Dade community.
The South Dade Care Awards honors those who make a difference in the South Dade community. This year was no different as Councilman Elvis R. Maldonado, liaison to the Homestead Education Committee, along with Teri Weinstein Trivizas, Community Liaison Representative for Dr. Larry Feldman, School Board Member, District 9, and Kametra Driver, Executive Director of WeCare of South Dade, had the honor and pleasure of presenting Mrs.Valtena Brown, Chief Operating Officer of Miami-Dade County Public Schools and former South Region Superintendent with the Education Impact Award.
Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough-McCormick, alongside Kametra Driver, Executive Director of WeCare of South Dade, had the honor and privilege of presenting the Outstanding South Dade Supporter Award to Jacqui Colyer who received the award on behalf of the Children’s Trust. The Children’s Trust has demonstrated support for organizations that serve the area through investing its dollars and resources and supporting policy changes to improve the health and lifestyle of residents in the area.
The Children’s Trust emphasizes collaboration and partnership in order to provide the programs and services needed by children and families and to effect community-wide change. Since their inception, The Children's Trust has encouraged creative approaches to coordinating, integrating and funding services across and within the areas of health, safety, development and promoted increased parental and community involvement on behalf of all our children, while stressing accountability and results.
