[ARCHIVED] Join Councilwoman Judy Waldman for Happy Hour at White Lion Cafe and support SOS

Join Councilwoman Judy Waldman and SOS for a Happy Hour at the White Lion Café, 146 NW 77 St., Friday April 12 from 5 – 7 pm. Tickets for this year’s SOS fundraiser will be raffled and for sale.

Every day in South Florida a child is left without a loving parent, sister, brother, grandmother or grandfather, due to the violence that plagues our community. We see it every day on our local news and wonder “how can we make a difference?” Now you can help “mend broken hearts” and have fun doing it, by being a Champion for Start Off Smart, (SOS). The City of Homestead, Homestead Police Department and SOS is calling for the community to participate in a fun evening of dining and dancing in order to “mend broken hearts”. This is not a regular dinner and dance, as we are taking you on a magic carpet ride back to the 1950’s and 60’s! All proceeds from this fundraiser will help victims of violence who reside in our community. With a special invitation from Councilwoman Judy Waldman, the “We’re Gonna Rock Around the Clock Tonight” 1950’s Sock Hop will take place on Saturday, April 20 at 7:00 pm at the Homestead-Miami Speedway Champion’s Club, at One Speedway Boulevard Homestead, FL 33035.

The event will feature a gourmet diner experience, hula hoop and dance contest with winner prizes, door prizes and a silent auction. Tickets are $75 and all proceeds go to supporting Homestead SOS. Call 305-224-5585 for more information.

Councilwoman Waldman is a passionate supporter of SOS and the services that they provide to our community. She is extremely vested in our community and especially in ensuring that children live and play in a safe, nurturing environment, free of the impact that violence plays in their innocent lives. Sharing her dedication and compassion, SOS serves over 1500 families annually. These families have been exposed to some of the most horrific crimes, child abuse, child neglect, human trafficking, sexual assault and domestic violence. SOS strives to address abusive and violent situations in the home in collaboration with the Homestead Police Department. SOS was created by the Homestead Police Department in 1991 in order to assist victims of violence who reside in our community. Services are provided by Case Managers who work closely with families in order to help them reach their goals and begin the healing process.

In addition, SOS has provided over a thousand bags of food and clothing to families, supplied over 700 children annually with back packs and school supplies, provided support services to over 50 human trafficking victims who live in South Dade and operates a “No Child Left Hungry” initiative during the summer months, when children are out of school and their parents cannot provide a nutritious meal.

Councilwoman Waldman is also requesting the community’s assistance in the form of sponsorship and/or donated items for the silent auction. This is an important fundraiser for victims of violence in our City. If you have an item to donate, we will pick it up! Please contact SOS at (305)224-5585 for additional information.
