[ARCHIVED] Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough McCormick Recognizes Books & Bicycles Supporters

Last December, for the second year in a row, Councilwoman Patricia-Fairclough-McCormick awarded books and bicycles to dozens of Homestead children whose families are currently going through economic hardship. The 2012 Books & Bicycle Giveaway was made possible with the help of various local businesses and organizations that donated the necessary resources to make this important program a success.

At a special presentation during the January 2013 City Council Meeting, Councilwoman Fairclough-McCormick recognized all the local businesses, non-profits, and individuals who supported her Books and Bicycles Giveaway program.
“This program offers our children the gift of education as well as the gift of recreation,” said Councilwoman Fairclough-McCormick. “Our community once again came together to make sure many children in need can have the opportunity to read and live a healthy life. From my heart to your hands I want to thank you. Your generosity made Christmas possible for these children and that is the greatest gift of all.”

Auto Infinity Insurance was instrumental in placing the gift of literacy into the hands of our children, said Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough-McCormick, who read a proclamation by Mayor Steven C. Bateman declaring January 16, 2013 as Auto Infinity Insurance Day. The Insurance company donated hundreds of books in both Spanish and English to Councilwoman Fairclough-McCormick’s program through its Read Conmigo campaign. The Auto Infinity Insurance parent-focused bilingual literacy campaign encourages Hispanic parents to read to their children at home through the distribution of free English-Spanish children’s books.

At the special presentation Councilwoman Fairclough-McCormick also awarded certificates of recognition to all the local businesses, non-profits and individuals who contributed to the 2012 Books and Bicycles event. Among those recognized were Saundra Lange, Senior VP of 1st National Bank of South Florida, Rick del Vecchio from Armstrong Ford, Willie Carpenter from Community Bank of South Florida, Mike Kiley, VP of FP&L Turkey Point Plat, Bill Duquette, CEO of Homestead Hospital, Feliz Martinez from Lennar, Tony Garcia from The Keyes Company, Adam Rosenblum from The Palace Gardens, Larry Roth from This is For The Kids, Inc.
