This October, Homestead Public Services Energy is celebrating 100 years of providing reliable public power. Join the Centennial Celebration Saturday, October 29th 12PM-4PM at HPS Energy located at 675 N. Flagler Avenue. Enjoy FREE cotton candy and snow cones, kids’ activities, and electrical safety demonstrations. Plus, meet with Customer Service representatives to answer questions about your bill or help cut costs with our energy-efficient lightbulb exchange.
Attendees at the Celebration can tour the Homestead Power Plant, sample the cuisine of South Florida’s hottest food trucks, or take a home a piece of history by stopping by the photo booth. Since 1916, HPS has been a true pioneer in energy services. At one time, large power companies did not realize the benefit of extending their services to the City of Homestead. So, residents and leaders decided to take matters into their own hands to create Homestead Public Services.
The first power plant was a humble beginning with only one generator, but as demand grew HPS expanded and was at one time among the largest municipal diesel-power plants in the entire United States. Now, HPS looks towards the future and another 100 years of providing community power. Find out about the latest trends and innovations in power generation at the Centennial Celebration while celebrating HPS Energy’s commitment to community power.
