The Homestead Public Information Office (PIO) came home with some serious hardware from the nationally renowned City-County Communications & Marketing Association (3CMA) Savvy Awards Competition—winning top honors in the TV/Video & Marketing Tools categories, as well as two Silver Circle Awards in others.
The entries achieving the highest recognition or “Savvy” were the We Are Homestead campaign informing residents on the new City Hall move and opening, as well as two submissions for the 2016 State of the City, entitled The Excitement Continues.
“Great concept and execution on the theme. Really enjoyed your use of video,” one 3CMA judge commented on We Are Homestead. “Excellent and inclusive effort to bring city together and instill a sense of forward momentum.”
The Public Information Office received a Silver Circle Award in the Marketing & Tools category for the Seminole Theatre opening events, which took place last winter. After nearly 40 years of vacancy, the City reopened the historic theatre as a cultural arts center thanks to the decisive May 2014 Bond Referendum. The PIO planned two opening events to celebrate this milestone in Downtown Revitalization, as well as to market the Seminole Theatre’s first season of events.
The Downtown Homestead Outreach Package produced by the PIO also received Silver Circle recognition in the Graphic Design category. The Package includes promotional video, pamphlets, presentations, and even a portable booth for use at marketing and trade shows. The City has already successfully used it to attract private business and developers to aid in Downtown Homestead’s revitalization.
This slew of awards and recognition comes on the heels of the Homestead Mayor and Council’s challenge to City staff to set a new standard for government transparency, information flow, and public outreach. The City's new approach has been to focus on providing important public information in creative ways without the usual government speak.
