A record-breaking 25,000 attendees filled the Homestead-Miami Speedway for the seventh annual Race to the 4th. Families from all over Homestead and South Florida dressed in their most patriotic ensembles to enjoy an evening of live music, kids’ activities, and fireworks.
Local bands Main Highway and Above the Skyline rocked the main stage as attendees danced the night away. Main Highway kept it classic with high-energy rock covers, and Above the Skyline brought some alt-rock attitude with original songs. Among those enjoying the festivities were Homestead’s Mayor & Council, as well as several visiting dignitaries.
For anyone with an empty stomach, numerous food trucks were on hand offering a variety of tasty summer treats along with refreshing beverages to wash it all down. Kids had plenty to occupy themselves with, including midway style amusement rides and rock walls to climb.
The Champions Club played host to a special VIP event, featuring a preferred view of the fireworks and unlimited food and soft drinks. The highlight of the evening was the pie-eating contest, pitting Homestead’s hungriest against each other. Last year’s returning champion defended his title successfully, but not without fierce competition from ravenous challengers.
Of course, no 4th of July celebration would be complete without a fireworks show and this was no exception. Attendance at the event was so high that additional seating had to be opened as throngs of people flooded the grandstands. The dazzling pyrotechnic display synced to a mix of patriotic tunes and pop hits delighted patriots of all ages and served at the grand finale to this salute to all things America.
