A heartfelt and emotional tribute by Councilman Jimmie L. Williams, III marked Pastor Brock Shiffer’s induction as Pastor of the Quarter. As a token of appreciation, Councilman Williams presented a journal to Pastor Shiffer in recognition of his outstanding leadership and contributions to the Homestead community.
“I remember a few years ago when I was in the hospital, you came to my bedside and prayed for me in my most vulnerable moment,” said Councilman Williams to Pastor Shiffer. “It’s people like you, with your heart and your integrity and your stance to be a change agent that make Homestead what it is. We need more people like you.”
Pastor Shiffer took to the microphone during the council meeting and gave thanks and expressed his passion for the city of Homestead, citing how he and his wife, Joel Ann, created the bumper sticker that reads “Let’s leave Homestead better than we found it!”
Pastor Brock Shiffer is the Pastor and Founder of Speedway Community Ministries, a non-denominational ministry. As a member of the Kiwanis Club of Homestead, he led the “Just 1 Book” program, which helps childhood literacy by recycling new or gently used children’s books to children in need. In the last 4 years, they have given out over 8,000 books.
In addition, Pastor Shiffer is a volunteer Pastor at Homestead Hospital and a weekly Pastor at Agape Family Ministries’ recovery program for women. He is an active member of New Beginnings Fellowship where he is in charge of the monthly missions program to the city. He also serves on Homestead’s Education Committee and Southwest Advisory Committee.
