[ARCHIVED] Vice Mayor Patrcia Fairclough Swears in the Newest Members of the Mayor’s Youth Council

The City of Homestead Council meeting began with the swearing-in presentation of the newest members of the Mayor’s Youth Council as Vice Mayor Patricia Fairclough presided over the ceremony. The purpose of the Mayor’s Youth Council is to complement academic studies by improving students’ knowledge and communication, as well as involving them in experiences to promote volunteerism among youth and adults in civic education and affairs.

“I am excited to facilitate the swearing in of our newest Mayor’s Youth Council members. The Mayor’s Youth Council members consists 8th –12th grade students from the Homestead community. They are charged with the task of championing the interest and participation of the youth in our community and building for the future, and engage and carry on the democratic process.” explained Vice Mayor Fairclough. She then called each new member to the podium for their swearing in.

The newest members of the Mayor’s Youth Council are:

Rebecca Abreau is a 9th grade student at Terra Environmental Research Institute and is a member of her school’s Key Club along with volunteering for activities at Air Base K- 8. Vice Mayor Fairclough also noted that she taught Rebecca in the 2nd grade and is proud to be able to provide her more teachable opportunities through the Mayor’s Youth Council.

Stephanie Chibas is an 8th grade student at Keys Gate Charter School. She participates in her school’s student government and is a UN team member as well. She is also on her school’s volleyball team.

Briana Chirinos is a 9th grade student at Terra Environmental Research Institute and is a member of her school’s Key Club. She participates in her school’s athletics programs as a member of the swimming team, as manager the girls’ varsity softball team, and plays on the junior varsity softball team.

Anthony Garcia is a 9th grade student at Westminster Christian School and is a volunteer team member for PATCHES, This Is For the Kids, and This Is the Dog.

Melissa Hurtado is a 12th grade student at Keys Gate Charter School. She is president of her school’s Psychology Club and participates on student council and student government. She is also a member of the school’s English Honor Society.

Antuanet Rivera is an 11-12 grade student at Arthur and Polly Mays Conservatory of the Arts. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the French Honor Society and is a Florida State Thespian. She’s also on the school’s debate team.

Ashlee Sealy is a 9th grade student at M.A.S.T. Academy at Homestead and plans to become a pediatric neurologist. She is a choir member and junior deaconess at Perrine Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
