Councilman Jimmie L. Williams, III and the Southwest Advisory Committee, along with many volunteers once again made the first day of school a great beginning when over 600 back packs and school supplies were donated to hundreds of local children.
Councilman Williams wanted to acknowledge all the sponsors, volunteers, and city employees that made this happen. “This is the 6th year the Southwest Advisory Committee has put on this back pack giveaway event and it has been a tremendous success, “noted Councilman Williams. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this significant annual event. Your hard work and dedication has helped to make a positive impact for so many children on their first day of school.”
The Backpack Giveaway took place at the Phichol Williams Community Center. Sponsors of the event included: Amerigroup, Lowe’s, Chicks N Wings, and the Pi Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Also contributing to the success of this event were the Southwest Advisory Committee, Homestead Police Department Reserve Officers, Police Explorers, and City of Homestead’s Phicol Williams Community Center staff.
