Back-to-school can be a stressful time—especially if your family doesn’t have the resources to provide all the necessities. Thanks to the efforts of Councilman Jimmie L. Williams, III and the Southwest Advisory Committee, hundreds of local children received backpacks and supplies.
“The youth of our community is truly our greatest resource,” said Councilman Williams. “I’m proud to be partnering with the Southwest Advisory Committee yet again to invest in our children and make sure the next generation is getting the start they need.”
The Backpack Giveaway took place at the Phichol Williams Community Center on the evening of Tuesday, August 11th. In addition to the giveaways, attendees also enjoyed a pizza party and a special dance performance. Sponsors of the event included: Lowe’s, Chicks N Wings, and the Pi Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Also contributing to the success of this event were the Homestead Police Department, City of Homestead Staff, and vendors such as: Trinity Empowerment Consortium, Hope for LYFE, Herbal Life of Campbell, MDC Housing Authority, Greater Miami Service Corp., Lavish Touches Hair & Spa, Inc., and Mark Black Academy
