[ARCHIVED] Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough Honors Principal of the Year

Councilwoman Patricia Fairclough approached the podium on the night of the April 2015 City Council meeting to honor two Homestead leaders in education: Mr. Guillermo Muñoz, Miami-Dade County Public Schools 2015 Principal of the Year, and Dr. Omar Monteagudo, 2015 South Regional Center Principal of the Year.

“I am proud to introduce two dynamic leaders in our community,” said Councilwoman Fairclough. “I think the City of Homestead does a fantastic job of recognizing teachers and students, but it’s also very important to recognize principals. They are like quarterbacks. They lead their teams, create a vision, and work in tangent with educational stake holders to win games in this community. These two principals are winning games. Thank you for your invaluable contribution to our city.”

Councilwoman Fairclough and the Education Committee presented to Mr. Guillermo Muñoz, Principal of Homestead Senior High, a retractable banner and a Proclamation to recognize his achievement of being named Miami-Dade County Public Schools 2015 Principal of the Year.

Mr. Muñoz has a Master’s of Science and Educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Muñoz has served as principal at Homestead Senior High since 2013. He brings more than 20 years of experience in administration and curricular expertise. He began his career as a Mathematics teacher at Kinloch Park Middle in 1992. He expressed the importance of making a positive impact in a child’s life and highlighted that for him, “being a principal is not a job, it’s a passion to make a lasting impression on the youth of today, so they can be the leaders of tomorrow.”

The second honoree of the evening was Dr. Omar Monteagudo, awarded 2015 South Regional Center Principal of the Year. Councilwoman Fairclough and the Education Committee presented him with a Proclamation.

Omar Monteagudo has been an educator for 18 years and holds degrees in Political Science, Latin American Studies, and Law. He is a graduate from Florida International University and the University of Florida. He has been recognized by Miami Dade County Public Schools as Region Principal of the Year, Region Assistant Principal of the Year Finalist, Region Teacher of the Year Finalist, District Social Studies Teacher of the Year, District Rookie Teacher of the Year, and District United Teachers of Dade (UTD) Rookie Steward of the Year. The increased focus on academic rigor and college exploration during his tenure has resulted in students being admitted to the most prestigious colleges and universities.
