Hundreds of Southwest Homestead residents enjoyed a bountiful Thanksgiving last year. Thanks to the efforts of Councilman Jimmie Williams III and the Southwest Advisory Committee, both a Thanksgiving Dinner and a Turkey Giveaway were offered to the community. But this initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the local Winn Dixie Supermarket.
During a Special Presentation at the March City Council Meeting, Councilman Williams recognized Winn Dixie for their generosity and charity: providing turkeys and side items for last year’s Turkey Giveaway. Because of their donation, over 350 Homestead families were able to enjoy a true Thanksgiving Holiday.
The formal Thanksgiving Dinner took place the Monday before Thanksgiving, welcoming over 250 people to the Phichol Williams Community Center. Attendees enjoyed a delicious dinner with all the fixings, plus an evening filled with fellowship, community, and festivities—including a special dance performance by a local dance troupe.
The Phichol Williams Community Center played host to the Turkey Giveaway the very next day, November 25th, 2014. Thanks to the generosity of Winn Dixie, 300 lucky families received free turkeys for their Thanksgiving dinner and hundreds more received hams.
Even though the Winn Dixie representatives couldn’t make it to the presentation, Councilman Williams expressed his gratitude that such an important corporation kept the Homestead community in mind, and was more than happy to give back during this time of celebration. “It is with sincere appreciation we lift Winn Dixie up because they are a great community partner. This Certificate of Appreciation is a small token of our gratitude, and an acknowledgement for their efforts and diligence in making sure all Homestead residents had a turkey on their tables this past Thanksgiving.”
