“I am proud to recognize Homestead Energy Services, which has been providing thousands of citizens and businesses in the City of Homestead with power for over 90 years,” said Vice-Mayor Burgess at the special presentation during the October City Council meeting. “Public Power Week is a reminder of the benefits of public power in Homestead and the commitment HES has to provide quality service at the lowest rates possible.
Public Power Week runs from October 7th through the 13th, and is a national annual event sponsored in conjunction with the American Public Power Association (APPA) in Washington, D.C. It is an opportunity for locally owned electrical utilities to communicate the benefits of providing electricity on a not-for-profit basis. One of the greatest benefits of having a locally run utility is that the citizens themselves have local input into the daily operations, procedures, and policies of the organization.
Homestead Energy Services employees are proud to live and work in the community they serve, and because they are local they are able to respond quickly to any emergency which may arise. Homestead Energy Services is also working towards using technology to make their product safer, more reliable and more cost effective to continue to benefit the community which they serve.
