Councilwoman Judy Waldman presented Homestead Hospital Baptist Health with a proclamation that declared October 23rd as Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
Councilwoman Waldman honored Homestead Hospital for raising money for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Foundation and bringing attention to Breast Cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
On October 23rd the Hospital held a “Be part of The Cure!” event in which over eight hundred dollars were raised for the cause. Employees donated $5 in exchange for an opportunity to wear jeans and pink on that day. Staff also participates in a bake sale, a basket drawing and a “prettiest in Pink” fashion contest.
“It is so important that we remind our family, friends, co-workers, and even strangers to get their check-ups because early detection is what saves lives,” said Councilwoman Waldman. “I commend our Hospital for doing their part and not only bringing awareness to breast cancer, but also for raising money. As a survivor, this cause is so close to my heart and I thank Homestead Hospital for doing their part.”
Councilwoman Waldman is a champion in raising awareness and funds for breast cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. She has participated in countless events to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation as well as the American Cancer Society’s Homestead Relay for Life, which she has chaired and been closely involved for over ten years.
“It is my life’s goal to continue to educate both men and women to see their doctors for regular checkups or if any unusual symptoms appear. However, it is everyone’s duty to continue to spread the word and to raise public awareness and I commend Homestead Hospital for doing their part,” said Councilwoman Waldman.
