Councilwoman Judy Waldman Honors Councilman Jon Burgess as League of Cities Vice President

During a special presentation at February’s council meeting, Councilman Jon Burgess was honored by Councilwoman Judy Waldman for his recent appointment to Vice President of the Miami-Dade County League of Cities.

“I’ve had the pleasure to serve with Mr. Burgess on this council for six years,” said Councilwoman Waldman. “All that time, he was very active in the Miami-Dade County League of Cities and now he has earned the vice-presidency of that organization. The league is in very capable hands. We are all extremely proud of him and know he will represent Homestead’s interests.”

The Miami-Dade County League of Cities was established for the purpose of uniting the common interests of the municipalities within Miami-Dade County and continues to work together with the municipalities’ elected officials on important issues that affect the residents and the business community of the respective cities, towns and villages.

Current league president and Village of Pinecrest Mayor Cindy Lerner was also honored by Councilwoman Waldman during the presentation.

“Homestead and I go way back,” said Mayor Lerner to those seated in the council chamber. “There was a time when I represented part of Homestead as state representative back in 2000. I have made some really good friends here. Rest assured that the dreams of those furthest south in this county will be held in consideration. I hope that over the course of my term, we have much success on the municipal, county and state level.”

Upon completion of his term, Councilman Burgess will assume the presidency of the Miami-Dade League of Cities making him the first representative from the City of Homestead to have received such an honor.
