Homestead Police Explorers Recruiting New Members

The Homestead Police Explorers is a law-enforcement-based community service program that falls under the City of Homestead Police Department. Its purpose is to bring together law enforcement officers and youth with an interest in law enforcement as a possible career.

The program instills discipline, responsibility and leadership, and students ages 14 – 21 with a G.P.A of 2.0 or better in each class are eligible to join. After joining, each Explorer must complete the Basic Law Enforcement Explorer Academy where they learn about law enforcement and exercise, and participate in teambuilding activities. The academy is very hands on and is structured to follow the Police Academy. The Explorers also take great pride in their community and often do neighborhood clean-ups and graffiti paint-outs.

Additionally, any Explorer over 16 who is in good standing with both the Explorer Program and school is eligible to ride along as an observer with an officer. The Explorers frequently attend leadership conferences, competitions, college tours and teambuilding trips as well as many community and city events.

When the Explorers graduate from high school it is not uncommon for the youth that have participated in the program through out high school to graduate with 2500 community service hours.

Orientation: Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 6:00pm in the Homestead PAL gym (600 SW 14th Ave., Homestead, FL 33030)

Academy First Day: Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 8:30am in J.D. Redd Park (Explorer building, 550 N. Homestead Blvd., Homestead, FL 33030)
