We Are Homestead Festival Celebrates Milestone for City Hall & Downtown Revitalization

Thousands of Homestead residents representing over 50 local organizations, schools and churches marched in the We Are Homestead parade, participated in the city’s largest group photo and together pulled the ribbon that marked the grand opening of their new City Hall.

The landmark building located at 100 Civic Court is designed to last more than 100 years, withstand even the strongest hurricane, and usher in a new era for Downtown Homestead. The new City Hall is open for business and serving residents daily. The 75-foot tall building is a community centerpiece that aligns with the vision to revitalize Downtown Homestead. Other projects include the new Police station currently under construction, the Seminole Theatre, which is already providing new cultural opportunities to Homestead’s citizens, and transportation, retail and entertainment plans that are underway.

The evening began with the largest group photo taken in Homestead’s history. Local groups, residents, and dignitaries all came out to show their City pride wearing a variety of uniforms, folkloric costumes or matching shirts to help paint a picture of Homestead’s diverse community. Before the Dedication Ceremony, the community organizations held a mini-parade through the majestic Royal Palm-lined entrance to the City Hall each holding We Are Homestead banners.

As they made their way through the palms, the groups were greeted by a festive marching band, cheering crowd, and brilliant blue ribbon trailing from the columns flanking the City Hall entrance. Following brief remarks by Homestead’s Mayor and Council, all attendees took part in a communal ribbon cutting. Rather than a traditional ceremony, everyone took hold of the ribbons trailing from the entryway to pull the ribbon apart and declare the City Hall officially dedicated by the entire Homestead community.

With the ribbon cut, the City Hall was then opened for tours while the festival on the plaza continued. Each City Department was present handing out information, answering questions and assisting residents throughout the evening. Families also enjoyed complimentary face painting, balloon art, and refreshments as music played across the plaza.
